Building Better Men Campaign
For more than a century, Delta Sigma Phi has helped young men become better leaders and better citizens. Brotherhood is a lifetime commitment to living our core values: Culture, Harmony, and Friendship. Our intention is not merely to develop a strong fraternity, but in addition, to challenge our members to make a difference in their communities and their world. It is this legacy and commitment that led to the development of the Building Better Men campaign, Delta Sig's bold vision for the future of the fraternity and its impact on the world.
The Building Better Men campaign consists of initiatives that will insure Delta Sigma Phi will become America’s Leading Fraternity in:

Leadership Training…
by training the highest % of chapter members each year compared to other national fraternities.

Academic Excellence…
by attaining a GPA in the Top 5 compared to all other national fraternities.

Undergraduate Membership…
by increasing average chapter size to reach Top 5 of all national fraternities.

Alumni Involvement…
by engaging 2500+ alumni in the Fraternity in a meaningful way.

Through each of these initiatives, Delta Sigma Phi is Building Better Students. Better Leaders. Better Citizens. Better Professionals. Better Men.

This campaign has been so successful; the Foundation Board of Trustees has increased the goal from $10 million to $15 million and extended the end date to June 30, 2009.

The Leadership Institute

How do you want to be remembered?

What’s your role? What do you want to get out of your college experience? Out of your life? Who will you be in 1, 10, or 25 years? The Leadership Institute will help you define your purpose, develop your vision, and chart your course for your future.

What is it about?

The Leadership Institute is about being a better leader. It’s about challenging, sharing, acting, inspiring, growing. It’s about taking the leadership ability you already have and stretching it to new heights. It’s not about being a better Delta Sig—it’s about being the best leader you can be. The Leadership Institute will challenge you—challenge your motivations, challenge your trust, challenge your power, and challenge your leadership.

How does it work?

The Leadership Institute is a five-day, intense experience for 60 Delta Sig brothers from all over the country. Successful alumni brothers take you through the journey, sharing their professional and personal leadership experiences. You’ll learn by doing, acting, and leading in ways you’ve never experienced before. You’ll come out of it a changed man, capable of leading like you never thought possible.

Am I the right guy?

Here’s what it takes to attend:

  • A proven track record of campus and community involvement
  • At the time of attendance, have completed two full years of college and still be an undergraduate
  • Member of Delta Sigma Phi and in good standing

Give me the facts!

  • A five-day, intense experience
  • 60 brothers from all over the country
  • Networking with successful alumni
  • Friendship and brotherhood like you’ve never experienced before
  • Costs you nothing--transportation, lodging and food are all covered

Regional Leadership Academy

The Regional Leadership Academy (RLA) is a day-long program designed to provide valuable training to undergraduate leaders and volunteers of Delta Sigma Phi. Participants increase their knowledge and skills in areas such as alumni relations, finances, risk management, and other areas of chapter operations.

In total, the 2008 RLAs trained 857 brothers who represented 87% of the Fraternity's chapters and colonies. Only 13 of the Fraternity's 106 active chapters and colonies did not attend an RLA, and this number represents the largest ever attendance at the Regional Leadership Academies since their inception.

The Fraternity is excited to announce the dates and locations for the 2009 RLAs below:

January 17, 2009 – Atlanta, GA
January 24, 2009 – Chicago, IL
January 31, 2009 – St. Louis, MO
February 21, 2009 – Los Angeles, CA
February 21, 2009 – Philadelphia, PA

Brotherhood Retreat

The Brotherhood Retreat is a regionally based program that allows new initiates to extend their fraternal experience beyond their own chapter/colony. Select upperclassmen serve as small group mentors while a team of alumni volunteers and headquarters staff members lead the large group sessions. Held over a weekend, the program provides our men the unique opportunity to be focused exclusively on Delta Sigma Phi, our ritual and the concept of brotherhood: what it is, what it means to us, what we can do to promote and sustain it, and what can threaten it if not attended to. Interactive discussions, exercises and personal reflection allow participants the opportunity to expand their network of brothers. The ultimate goal of the retreat is to deepen the participants’ understanding of brotherhood so that they can return to their chapters/colonies as better brothers themselves and more capable of building better men among their peers.

Here’s what participants said about the pilot session of the Brotherhood Retreat held in June 2005 in Bloomington, IN.

o This was my first experience with the national Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and after going through this I can assure you it will not be the last.
o This is a great program for new initiates. There was so much I learned that I can take back.
o I enjoyed myself more than I ever imagined. Thanks!
o This was an overall great learning experience. It was great meeting guys from other chapters and listening to their experiences.

NIC’s Undergraduate Inter-Fraternity Institute

UIFI is a program facilitated by the NIC (North-American Interfraternity Conference). Since its inception in 1990, UIFI has challenged more than 5000 fraternity and sorority students representing almost 290 different universities and colleges, and 115 different Greek affiliations to make a difference in the Greek community.

The institute is interactive, fun, challenging, and intentional. During a session, participants will experience hands-on interaction, experiential activities, discussion time, and personal reflection time. There is considerable focus on the positive aspects of fraternities and sororities in addition to important discussions about issues that threaten our future.

Each UIFI participant is challenged to develop a personal plan of action and to make a commitment to leading their organization through the change process. It is a unique challenge, one that each participant must be willing to undertake.

The Delta Sigma Phi Foundation offers ten scholarships to UIFI annually. Since UIFI’s inception, Delta Sigma Phi has had over 60 members attend this organization-altering institute. To learn more about UIFI Scholarships, please contact Foundation@deltasig.org.

LeaderShape

The LeaderShape Institute is an interactive, energizing and unique experience that builds leadership skills. Since 1986, approximately 18,000 participants have graduated from the program all over the world. In 2004, 2,283 participants attended 51 LeaderShape Institutes, including both the national sessions and campus-based sessions.

The LeaderShape Institute develops participants to "lead with integrity." The curriculum incorporates current leadership issues in such a way as to meet the developmental needs of young adults. The curriculum focuses on "take-home application" through the vehicle of a comprehensive and powerful LeaderShape Project. By working through the project, each participant has an opportunity to engage himself/herself in reflection, planning, one-on-one interactions, small group feedback, and large group learning. Students are encouraged to practice new skills, give and receive feedback from peers and faculty, and risk new behaviors in a safe, supportive atmosphere. Everyone at The LeaderShape Institute is a teacher and everyone is a learner.

The Delta Sigma Phi Foundation has provided partial and full scholarships for the LeaderShape Institute for many years. The Foundation also offers supplemental support for the campus-based LeaderShape program. For more information on LeaderShape Scholarships please contact Foundation@deltasig.org.
