Russell T. Roebuck Scholarship (available to undergraduate students in North Carolina)

In August 2009, the Delta Sigma Phi Foundation will award the 2009 Russell T. Roebuck Scholarships to deserving undergraduates who are members of chapters in the state of North Carolina. A total of $5000 will be available for the 2009/10 academic year. The Russell T. Roebuck Endowment of the Delta Sigma Phi Foundation funds these scholarships. Scholarship applications for 2009-2010 will be available by February 2009 and are due to the National Headquarters by May 15, 2009.

Russell Roebuck was born in Martin County in eastern North Carolina and spent much of his adult life in Martin and neighboring Wilson counties. He was a professional musician and served as both music director and organist at First Presbyterian Church in Wilson, NC.

Russell was initiated at the Delta Iota chapter at Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in 1958. He was deeply committed to Delta Sigma Phi and wanted to see the best young men recruited and have the opportunities to succeed. He spent 12 years on the Grand Council and was National President from 1967-1969 and again from 1973-1975. He served as the Chapter Advisor for the Delta Iota chapter for many years and was also a District Governor. The Outstanding District Governor Award is named in his honor. Russell won the Harvey Hebert Award in 1965 and the Mr. Delta Sig Award in 1981.
